United left the Villa park with a win but their performance still leave many question marks about their status as real title contenders this season.
United themselves would be contented giving the fact that they managed a single point from their two games last season. But after pumping huge sum into their square, United still look short in confidence.
A first half strike by surprise pick, Adnan Januzaj in the 29th minutes of the first half ensured United went on top of the league summit with six points. Memphis Depay could have made it two but his shot missed the post by inches before substituted by Ashley Young.
Aston Villa themselves did not threaten United much despite impressive runs into United area by Jordan Ayew and Gabriel Agbonlahor in the second half.
United will need to improve going into their champions league play off on Tuesday. United defense was solid on the night but more concern on the team’s striking with captain Rooney having one of his worst United performance. He should have made way for Hernandez.
All the new signings are proving quality addition to the team with a nother good performance from all five signings. Remero looked calmed and in total control of his defense so was Matteo Darmain. Was arguably the best man on the pitch alongside Chris Smalling. A second great performance from him. Morgan Schneiderlin was solid today and could be the sort of player United have been lacking all this while. Memphis was not on target but showed lot of promise. Bastian Schweinsteiger proved his experience when he came on in the second half at a time United needed stability and composure in the middle.
United may have won but there weren’t too many glimpses of true quality in their performance.
